Falcon Craft
One of the many things that Cubs get up to at our meetings and on camps is craft work, we sometimes ask the Beaver leaders to help us with this as they are generally better at it than us male leaders.

We usually split the Cubs up into groups and with a bit of guidance from the leaders they come up with some great ideas.

As you can see the Cubs get quite involved with it and their concentration shows here, we usually run out of time as the Cubs are enjoying it so much.
Thank you to Squirrel and Mole from the Kingfisher Beavers for their help with this one.
Comic Relief
Well done to Theo and red six for organising and running their Big Bake event to raise funds for Comic Relief, I asked Theo to send me a write up on what they did which you can find below.
I don’t know where the idea for the big bake came from, I just knew that I wanted to bring in cakes and biscuits to sell them for charity. My mum suggested to go on the Comic Relief website and see what we find. It had suggestions for a sale, A BIG BAKE. I then thought it might be a nice idea to ask if Red Six wanted to help me but I needed to get permission from Akela first. Once Akela agreed, I made flyers telling everyone what was happening and sent letters to Red Six asking if they would help. I made a list showing a countdown to the day and what I needed to do. The night before, we made lots of cakes and prepared everything including money, food bags and napkins. It went really well on the night because there were lots of cakes, people helping and people buying. We sold almost everything and I was really pleased when I counted the money to find that we had raised £38.60. Everyone seemed to have a good time and I hope that everyone enjoyed the goodies! We sent the money on Friday 16th March and I learned that we could feed 2 children for one month with the money we raised. I would like to thank all of Red Six for helping me and a special thanks to the pack for supporting us on the night.

Global Challenge

The Falcon Cub Scouts have been very busy working on their Global Challenge badge, they had to complete three challenges before they got their badge.
With the help of Lissete Leboutillier the Environmental Impact Officer from Bracknell Forest Borough Council they found out
-
About recycling
-
Why we need to recycle
-
What to recycle
-
Where to recycle
-
How to sort it correctly
The Cubs and some of their families visited the local refuse transfer and sorting station to see for themselves how everything is dealt with, this was a most informative visit as we all learnt allot and saw for ourselves how everything is sorted and recycled.
Here are some facts that we found out about rubbish
- 26 million tonnes of waste is generated in the UK each year
- 60% of this could be recycled
- The rest goes to Land Fills around the country
- Space is running out for land fill sites
- As it all rots it produces Methane Gas which is not very good for the atmosphere
We have also found out all about Global Warming and how to prevent it, Lissete came back to see us at our meeting to help us with this as well.
We would like to thank Lissete, Bracknell Forest Borough Council and SITA for helping us with our Global Challenge badge.
For the last part of their Challenge we adjusted the requirements slightly, the Cubs should have found out about an international charity but we did that earlier in the year for the Tsunami Appeal.
So we chose a local Trust that is nearer to home, we found out about Sebastian's Action Trust and held a sponsored event to raise funds for it as our Good Turn.
We had a sponsored snow tubing event at the John Nike ski slope, good fun was had by all including the leaders, the Cubs started to wear a bit after dragging their tubes up the hill a few times. We finished of the evening with burger, chips and a drink.
The evening raised £160 for the Trust which we sent to the trust.
Sadly Sebastian died on Christmas Eve 2003 after a two and a half year battle with cancer. He had a dream of building a holiday home by the sea for sick children and their families.

Duxford Trip
The Falcons and the 2nd Easthamstead
Cub Packs went to Imperial War Museum at Duxford
on Sunday.
The Cubs and Leaders ( all 53
of us ) spent the day going round the many hangers
and exhibits, we were treated to air displays,
demonstrations and able to go onboard many aircraft
including Concord.
The American Air Museum was
probably the most impressive as it had a B52
bomber inside it, the huge Stratofortress with
it's 185 feet wingspan is surrounded by many
other aircraft including many that hang from
the ceiling.
A great day out for us all.
Thank you to the staff at Duxford
for helping us with our visit and also to our
coach driver Alan.

Pedal Car Racing
This week we had a visit from
the District Explorer Scouts with the pedal
cars, the Cubs were split into teams and had
timed races around the car park, the team with
the most laps won.
|
Thank You Explorer Scouts, we had a
great time.

3 Mile Walk
The Pack are working towards their Explorers
badge, part of which is a 3 mile walk so we
walked from Crowthorne to Bracknell through
the Swinley forest, we had a few stragglers
along the way but made it to the finish in
time.

Over the coming weeks they will be doing
all sorts of outdoor events which will be
going towards their badge.
Remember if any of you cubs want to gain
a badge, all you have to do is to see one
of the Leaders.
Where do the badges go on the Cub's uniform
